Susan Maurine Scheiderer

Susan Maurine Scheiderer, age 92, of Renton, Washington passed away peacefully into eternal glory on Wednesday evening, May 20, 2020 at her home in Renton.  

 

She was born Maurine Susan Kroll on December 28, 1927 in Port Edwards, Ontario (now Thunder Bay) to Ernest Hultreich Kroll and Amalia Esther (Lipka) Kroll.  She was the fifth of ten children – or “the bottom of the top half,” as she liked to say.  The family was only temporarily in Canada - on a work assignment - and returned to the family home in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin where she grew up and lived until her marriage.  She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945 and worked at the local paper mill, where she met her best friend, Mitzie, who introduced Susie to her brother, Paul, who was in the Navy at the time.  On September 8, 1956, Susan Kroll and Paul Scheiderer were united in marriage by the groom’s father in nearby Sigel.  The couple settled briefly in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and in February 1957, Paul was recruited by the Boeing Company and they moved across the country to Burien, Washington.  Their son, Gregory arrived that summer.  They bought a house in Renton in April 1960 and daughter Pamela arrived in January 1961.  As a young family, there was a lot of camping, scouting, fun vacations, games, and church activities.

 

She loved a lot of things.  

 

She loved sports.  As a younger woman, she was quite the hot-shot bowler, with long-standing records in Wisconsin.  She was in a local league for many years and enjoyed playing with family members in our church league.  She was passionate about sports – loved the Seahawks, but was also a forever Packer Backer; rooted for the UW – whether Washington Huskies or Wisconsin Badgers; a die-hard Mariners fan – she watched every game.  She still laments our loss of the Seattle Supersonics.  

 

She loved to play cards.  We played often as a family and she was also a member of a neighborhood pinochle group (still going) for over 50 years.  She loved puzzles, soap operas, baking, and ‘Family Feud.’  She was a collector – mugs, magnets, Precious Moments, owls, bells, stuffed bears, lighthouses, salt & pepper shakers … more mugs.  She loved to knit and crochet; do stitchery and paint ceramics.  She loved to make pillows for family and friends and blankets and booties for new babies.  Her famous “Mug Rugs” were given away with great joy – and she often received custom orders!  

 

She loved her Savior and was very active in her church – never missing a Sunday as long as she was able.  She sang in the Chancel Choir, attended Bible Studies, was active in the LWML group and O.W.L.S. (Older Wiser Lutheran Seniors), altar and wedding committees for years, and also faithfully mailed out the church newsletter each month.  

 

She loved her many friends – from the neighborhood, from church, from their early days in the Burien apartment.   She cherished their visits and was forever grateful for their niceties.

 

She loved being with family the most, and enjoyed our many family gatherings, dinners and game nights – as long as we did not play ‘Telestrations’.  Her great-grandson was the ultimate joy of her life – and she was looking forward to the arrival of a new great-granddaughter in June.  

 

Sue is survived by her son, Gregory and Cynthia Scheiderer of West Seattle; daughter, Pamela and Kevin Bunker of Kent; grandson, Shane and Elizabeth Bunker of Kent; granddaughter, Tara (Bunker) and Jordan Howe of Renton, her great-grandson, Corin Bunker; one sister, Barbara Brundidge of Green Bay, Wisconsin and many, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; six sisters: Marion Schroeder, Ruth Bathke, Cordula Joosten, Gretchen Smolarek, Alice Janz, and Lois Staffon; and two brothers:  Ernest Kroll and Jim Kroll.

 

Due to social distancing mandates, there will be a private burial at Tahoma National Cemetery on May 29.  Arrangements for a Celebration of Life will be forthcoming.
