We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Edline - Yahn & Covington Funeral Chapel
Linda Kay Olson was born in Yakima on March 9, 1949 and passed away peacefully on April 23, 2022 in her home in Maple Valley. She was 73.
Linda worked for the Washington State Department of Transportation for 28 years, the last 14 years as the Purchasing and Telecommunications Manager for Northwest Region before retiring in 2009. In 2017 Linda was elected to the Maple Valley City Council. Linda’s proudest accomplishment, while on the city council, was the creation of the Summit Park Playground. Linda advocated strongly that the playground be inclusive to children of all abilities. The park includes playground equipment that allows children in wheelchairs to play along side their peers (merry go round, group teeter totter) and many sensory toys. The playground will be renamed in Linda’s honor “The Linda Olson Playground”. Linda resigned from the council in February 2022, allowing her to focus on her family.
Linda is survived by her husband David Olson, 3 children Erik (Stacey), Chris (Jill) , and Heather (Josh) Eliason, 2 step children Derick (Ann) Olson and Cheryl (Chris) Pittman, 8 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and 2 sisters. Family was Linda’s top priority. She hosted all the large family events, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, summer barbecues, and more. Linda enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great granddaughter playing, baking, supporting their interests, and teaching them family traditions. She had a passion for baking, which everyone got to enjoy. Almost all of her grandkids have had a birthday cake specially designed for them by grandma.
Donations in Linda’s name can be made to either Birthday Dreams or Valley Girls and Guys.
A Memorial Service for Linda will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 11:00am at New Life Church, 15711 152nd Ave. SE, Renton, WA 98058.
