Derik Kjell Martinson

Derik Kjell Martinson, 52, of Maple Valley Washington, passed away on July 14, 2023 after a short visit to Auburn General hospital. Derik was born on January 28th 1971 in Auburn, Washington to Erik and Vicki Martinson of Renton. He was raised in the same house in the Cascade Vista neighborhood of Renton attending Renton Park Elementary and Nelsen Middle School. 

Growing-up, Derik participated in a variety of sports and activities, until he eventually found soccer. This grew to become a lifetime love, both as a player and as a spectator. He followed the Seattle Sounders and United States National teams from youth through to his death.  

Derik shared a passion with his father in mechanics and restoring classic cars. He customized his first car, a 1953 Chevy Pick-up, while in high school and continued this passion for the rest of his life.

After graduating from Lindbergh High School in 1989, having also attended Renton Technical College and Green River College, Derik eventually went to work with his father at F.T. Crow & Company as a welder/fitter/fabricator. This kickstarted a 20+ year career and professional passion.

Derik was preceded in death by his parents: Erik and Vicki; Grandparents: Pat and Floyd Karr and Erik Sr. and Mildred Martinson. He is survived by brother Shawn (wife Jennifer) and his two beloved nieces (Bridget & Tatum).

An open-house visitation will be held at Edline-Yahn & Covington Funeral Chapel (27221 156th Ave SE, Kent, WA 98042) on Thursday August 3rd from 1-3 pm.
