Albert Orville Bond

Albert Orville Bond was born on Easter Sunday, April 17th, 1938, to Marvin and Delpha (Whitehead) Bond in Twin Falls Idaho.

He was the oldest son of five children. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his siblings, His older sister Yvonne and his younger brothers, David, John and Craig.

He grew up in Pendleton, Oregon and was on the high school football team and the high school fire department, which influenced his lifelong dedication to the fire service. He graduated in 1957 and joined the Oregon National Guard as well as taking a position with the local Safeway store.

Throughout his life he was always willing to help others and was active in his church, helping with Boy Scouts and multiple callings as his health allowed.

In 1960 he was called to go on his mission which took him to London England.

Upon his return to Pendleton, in 1961, he went to the fire department and told the Captain that he wanted to apply to be a firefighter and got hired on the spot. He also met his future wife, Josephine Mantione and in 1963 they got married.

In 1968, with one young son and another child on the way Albert resigned from the Pendleton Fire Department in November to start anew with the Kent Fire Department that following month, moving from Oregon to Washington State. His second son was born the following January.

In December of 1980, as part of his religious beliefs, was sealed to his parents and then his family at the Temple (of the Church of Latter-Day Saints).

In 1984, he was part of the boy scout Jamboree in Farragut Idaho, assisted with the medical portion and was working with a MASH unit training in the area.

Albert coached the boys in baseball, boy scouts and was the loudest supporter on the sidelines as his sons’ played sports.

In 1993, he became a father-in-law when Doug married Marita and then became a grandfather in 1995 and again in 1999 to Samantha and Joshua.

Albert was the same with his granddaughter and grandson when they also started playing different sports. His was always their biggest supporter and always available to lend a hand.

On January 30, 2004, Albert retired from the City of Kent Fire Department after 35 years of dedicated service.

In 2016 and 2017 he was blessed with his two great-grandsons who were the light of his life.

Albert’s 84th birthday occurred the same as his first day, occurring on Easter Sunday, with family and loved ones with him.

Albert had two strong beliefs:

Treat everyone the way you want to be treated and you’ll never go wrong.
Families are forever. He felt that way about both his families. The one by blood and marriage and the one that was his Fire Department Family.

Albert is survived by his wife of 58 ½ years, Josephine; His two sons, Keith and Doug. Daughter In Law, Marita; Granddaughter Samantha, Grandson, Joshua and two Great-Grandsons: Lorenzo and Samuel.
