John Ball Obituary

John H. Ball, passed away at home Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the age of 79. He was born September 20, 1938 in Los Angeles, California to John SR and Dawn Ball. His family moved to Omaha, Nebraska where growing up he developed the love of outdoors and adventure.

He graduated from Princeton University with his B.A. (1960), continued his education at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, was elected his AΩA in 1962, graduated Cum Laude with his M.D. & M.Sc. Biochemistry in 1964. He served his internship and residency in Boston at Mass Memorial Hospital and Boston City Hospital.

John’s pursuit in medicine was interrupted with his time in the US Army. Serving proudly in Thailand during the Viet Nam war.

John returned home and started his Endocrinology Fellowship at Vanderbilt under Grant Liddle, MD and Earl Sutherland, PhD.; Nobel Laureate. John authored several publications during his time at Vanderbilt.

John’s passion for the outdoors brought him out to the NW in 1971, initially practicing at Kent Medical Center, than starting his own solo practice in 1976. He practiced in the Renton area for 45 years and enjoyed the generations of families that became his friends. He was the Director of the ICU for Valley Medical Center (1972-1981) and a member of the teaching staff at the University of Washington (1971 - 1997).

He also enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, sport shooting, his Labrador retrievers and working on his property with Anne.

John will be missed by his much loved wife Anne of Kent, WA. He is survived by his children Cassandra (Scott) Goetting of Auburn, WA, Cynthia (William) Wheeler of Black Diamond, WA and Jennifer Hamor of Kent, WA; Brother Steven Ball of Callian, France; grandchildren Christopher Goetting, Travis Goetting, William Wheeler, Sarah Wheeler, Rachael Hamor and Katie Hamor.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held 2:30 PM on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA. Services entrusted to Edline-Yahn & Covington Funeral Chapel, Kent.
